Anthony Barnhill

One of Australia’s leading young musicians, Anthony Barnhill is versatile pianist, composer and conductor. His performances have been described as ‘heroic’ (Wilma Smith, concertmaster MSO), ‘sensitive and intelligent’ (ArtsHub review), and displaying ‘incredible showmanship’ (Tina Arena). As a pianist, Anthony’s credits span live radio (Fox FM, ABC, 3MBS), national television (Young Talent Time), guest soloist with Melbourne Youth Orchestras, and as accompanist for platinum R&B artist Mario. He is widely sought after as a session pianist, accompanist, and pit musician.

Anthony holds an Associate Diploma (A.Mus.A.) and Licentiate Diploma (L.Mus.A.) with distinction from the AMEB. He has studied conducting under acclaimed conductors Christopher Seaman and Benjamin Northey. Anthony studied the Bachelor of Music at Monash University where he won numerous university awards including the Anna Chmiel Memorial Piano Prize and the highly competitive Concerto Competition. In addition, he achieved the university’s highest result in performance in three consecutive years. Anthony was winner of the Lyceum Club’s prestigious Margaret Sutherland Bursary (2015).

Anthony is a talented musical director with experience in a variety of genres. He is conductor for Creativity Australia choirs and has worked with several of Melbourne’s major theatre companies. Theatrical highlights including conducting seasons of Oliver! (2011), Funny Girl (2015), Disney’s The Little Mermaid (2016), and Anything Goes (2016). In 2016/2017 Anthony toured China as musical director for the Australian International Opera Company. He has also collaborated with John Foreman in the composition of a song performed throughout Australian schools. Anthony has served as Composer in Residence for Creative Innovation Asia Pacific.
